Simple Felt Donut Garland

felt donut garland

There are very few sure things in life. But one thing you can always be sure of is that more donuts = more happy. I mean, have you ever seen someone eating a donut who wasn’t smiling? Didn’t think so. So I decided to add some donuts to my home decorations. Why not, right? But this project can also (and is probably more likely to) help you decorate for a party or something. Here’s how to make your own simple donut garland.

DIY Donut Garland – what you need:

  • felt in various colors, including tan and brown
  • two round stencils, one large and one smaller (I used a coaster and a bottle of glue)
  • marker
  • scissors
  • hot glue
  • paint and paintbrush
  • embroidery thread and needle

Take the larger of your two stencils and use a marker to outline the circle on a piece of felt. Cut out the circle, and then do the same with your smaller stencil in the middle of that circle. You can even save the inner circle and attach it to the garland later (they look like those little donut holes so it definitely fits).

You don’t have to cut out the inner circle on all of them. As you know, donuts come in many different varieties so just use your imagination and create a bunch of different donuts out of felt. You can add frosting in various colors by gluing colorful felt around the donut shape. You can even use paint to add some colorful sprinkles.

Once you have a bunch of different donuts, use a needle and embroidery thread to attach them all together. Tie the ends or tie all of the donuts in place and hang your new garland in your kitchen or wherever you need that donut boost the most. One warning though: you’ll need to make sure you have actual edible donuts around your home most of the time because this garland will definitely make you hungry.

And I just realized that this is my second post in a row where I made some kind of junk food out of felt. I’m not ashamed (or surprised).
