Every year, I look forward to unwrapping all of my Christmas tree ornaments because they hold so many memories. But during the rest of the year, I basically only record memories using one thing – Instagram. So I thought it would be cool to kind of fuse these two concepts together and make an ornament using Instagram photos. This project is so incredibly easy, so I think it would be fun to make a whole bunch of them and fill a little tree with them. It would be like a photo album on display for the whole season. So here it is…
DIY Instagram Ornaments – what you need:
- photo printer or two printed Instagram photos
- a cereal box or piece of thin cardboard
- scissors
- mod podge
- paintbrush
- twine
Step 1: Select your photos
If you’re making one ornament, you need two photos of the same size, one for each side of the ornament. You can either print these out on your own or order them from a service like Printstagram.
Step 2: Cut and attach to cardboard
Once you have both of your photos, you’ll need to cut out a piece of thin cardboard (like that from a cereal box), that is the exact same size as the photos. Take your paintbrush and cover one side of the cardboard with mod podge. Apply one of your Instagram photos. Then do the same with the other side of the ornament.
Step 3: Add the twine
Cut a small hole in the top corner of the photo and string a small piece of twine (about 4 inches long) through it. Tie a small bow or knot at the ends of the twine. Then hang up the ornament on your tree and enjoy looking at it throughout the season!
